Filtering your Matches can save you a ton of time by helping you identify the best grants and funders to pursue. That’s why we’ve introduced the Field of Work filter.
Selecting Fields of Work/Keywords
When you set up a project in Instrumentl, you select Fields of Work/keywords that match you to funders and funding opportunities.
When reviewing either your Opportunity or Funder Matches, you see these same Fields of Work in the dropdown Filter list.
How to use the filter
Filtering by Zero Fields of Work
If none of the keywords are selected as a filter, the matches would show both results that exactly match the Field(s) of Work (i.e., "green" matches), while also showing matches that have a broader Field of Work that encompasses the keyword you selected (i.e., "yellow" matches).
Filtering by 1 Field of Work
If we were to check off one of the listed keywords, only the matches that exactly match that Field of Work would be displayed.
In other words, our filtered list of Opportunity/Funder Matches would all contain at least one "green" keyword (i.e., the exact same Field of Work as filtered).
Filtering by 2+ Fields of Work
When you select multiple keywords in the Fields of Work filter, the matches displayed contain at least one of the exact keywords selected. Some matches may have either of the filtered Fields of Work, while others have both/all of the keywords you selected.
This means that selecting two or more keywords from the Field of Work filter functions as an "OR statement" rather than an "AND statement".
Special note: Prospecting Assistant (beta)
Some of you may have early access to the new Prospecting Assistant in beta. With this feature, you will not see the Field of Work filter since you don't select keywords when setting up your project. Rather, the "cause areas" of your project is encompassed by an AI-generated 'summary'.
To make adjustments to your project's 'summary', select Edit project > Match criteria > Edit (Summary & location) > Update summary
Instead of "Fields of Work", your matches will include Cause areas.
You can see why you were matched to a grant by reading the Match Insights.
Funder Matches will still display 'Fields of work', but you can think of them as "Cause areas".
Filtering by Fields of Work enables you to instantly hone in on the best-fit grants and funders. Want to elevate your prospecting even more? Learn how to filter by specific locations here.
