The Tracker is meant to keep your funding pipeline organized. We recommend folks add all funding opportunities to their Tracker, even ones found outside of Instrumentl. Why?
Centralize your funding pipeline
Save time hunting down funding information
Improve team collaboration
Automatically access funder 990 insights
Adding a "custom grant"
To get started, go to the far-right-hand side of your Tracker above the column headers and click + Add new > select + Add one.
β
From there, you'll be prompted to fill out additional fields. If the Funder or Opportunity doesn't appear as a result in our database, you can write a custom name and select + Add [Custom Name] as a New [Funder/Funding Opportunity] (you can always change this later).
If the Funder is not in our database, you'll see an optional field to indicate the Funder Type as well.
Next, you must select the Instrumentl Project where you want to save this "custom grant." After that, you may complete the optional fields, which vary depending on the Status selected. When finished, click Save.
β
*Note: For those subscribed to the Professional Plan or above, you'll be prompted with the option to utilize the Award Assistant if you choose an Awarded Status.

"Custom grants" vs opportunities in the database
Identifying "custom grants"
To distinguish funding opportunities you've added to your Tracker (i.e., "custom grants") from ones you've saved from the Instrumentl database, look for this symbol:
In the Tracker view, this icon is located to the right of the opportunity name, as shown below. If you hover your cursor over it, you'll see 'Added by [user initials]'
When you open up the saved grant page by clicking on the opportunity in the Tracker, navigate to the Funding Opportunity tab. "Custom grants" will have a banner stating, 'Opportunity Added by [user initials]'.
On the left-hand side of a saved grant page, you can identify "custom grants" with the same icon as before. Just like in the Tracker, you can hover over the symbol to see which user on your account added the opportunity.

What's different?
Funding opportunities from outside Instrumentl that you add to your Tracker (i.e., "custom grants") differ from opportunities you save from the database in the following ways:
There is only one deadline field ('Opportunity Deadline'). You cannot add two due dates: one for an LOI deadline, and another for a Full Proposal Due Date. You'll have to choose which due date you want to use for the "deadline" (you can edit this later!).
There is only one 'Submission goal'. Just like with deadlines, "custom grants" don't support LOI submission goals and Full proposal submission goals. The same goes for 'Submission date'.
"Custom grants" do not include the following actions: Copy link to page, Share this grant, Download PDF, and Suggest an update
There is no 'Your Cycle' section for "custom grants". A workaround here is to duplicate the opportunity to a new fiscal year with a distinct deadline.
Editing a "custom grant"
To make changes to a grant or funder you've added to your Tracker, open up the saved opportunity from your Tracker > navigate to the Funding Opportunity tab > click Edit Opportunity
A window will pop up where you can change the name of the Funder or Funding Opportunity, select a Funder Type, enter a Website URL, and indicate whether the funder is invite-only.
When finished, click Save.
If you have several grants from outside Instrumentl that you'd like to upload to your projects, you can use the Import your grants spreadsheet option when adding a new opportunity to the Tracker. Read how to do this here!
