Instrumentl has the largest database of active nonprofit grants and creates 990 insights for both Funders and Recipients. Our Content team works diligently to maintain an accurate, ever-growing database of grants and 990 data. While we recognize we're not perfect, we strive for perfection. We're quick to build funding opportunities when they're announced and update funder 990 Reports as the IRS publishes such filings, and we welcome your help! On any Funding Opportunity or Funder/Recipient 990 Report, you can send our Content team feedback.

Overview

When you send feedback from a grant page or 990 Report to correct any incorrect or missing information, it goes directly to our Content team's inbox.

Once submitted, the typical turnaround time for a "Funder Flag" or "Grant Flag" is 1 business day, though you may hear back sooner or later depending on volume.

As with reaching out to our Support team, a message thread is created within the platform when you send feedback to our Content team. You'll receive updates on the flagged funder/grant in a reply to your initial feedback message. You can write back and forth with the Funder/Grant Data specialist in that same thread.

How to submit feedback

When viewing grants and funders across different areas of the platform, you'll see the following buttons. Click the exclamation mark (❗) to 'Suggest an update' to our Content team.

Next, in the text box under "Help us improve Instrumentl", share the data discrepancy or inaccuracy for this funder/grant in as much detail as possible.

As explained above, you will hear back from a member of the Content team via the platform's chat messenger.

Where to submit feedback

From the Matches tab

When viewing an Opportunity Match, you'll see the 'Suggest an update' (❗) button on the far right of both the 'OPPORTUNITY' and 'FUNDER' tabs.

You can flag Funder Matches this same way.

Saved grant page

When you open up an opportunity saved to your project Tracker, navigate to the Funding Opportunity tab. You can flag this grant for our Content team with the (❗) button to the far right.

990 Report (Funder/Recipient Profile)

When you open up a 990 Report in full view from your Tracker or Quick find, the 'Suggest an update' (❗) button will be underneath the funder's name in the top-left.

Limitations and parameters to requests

Funder 990 Data

While we welcome feedback on funder information in the database (e.g., websites), we refer to "funder pages" as 990 Reports because our funder database should reflect the most recent 990 data filed with the IRS by foundations. Some requests, such as changing the funder name, cannot be accomodated unless indicated in the most recent Form 990 filing.

"Missing" Funders

If you cannot locate a particular funder page using Quick find, it likely means they're not a tax-exempt organization with a history of filing Form 990 with the IRS. We do not build funder pages for corporate or government entities—only their active grants. Instead of submitting a request to build such a funder, you can add it yourself! Read more about which funders have 990 Reports and pages here.

*Note: if a funder is relatively newer, they may not have filed their first 990 yet to the IRS. In such instances, we would likely not yet have a 990 Report/Funder profile for them.

Invite-only grants

The funding opportunities we build in our database are active and open to applicants. We will not add any invite-only grants to our database, though we do include invite-only funders. Rather than writing to our Content team to add an invite-only grant, add it yourself to your Tracker!
