When it comes to planning for the upcoming fiscal year, Instrumentl knows how important it is for nonprofits and grant writers to review opportunities from the previous fiscal year and decide whether to reapply.
In Instrumentl, it's recommended to have one Tracker "entry" per application you submit. Another way to think of it is that each grant application cycle you want to track will have its own Opportunity in the Tracker. This means if you're reapplying for a grant, it's important to create a new record in your Instrumentl Tracker.
In this article, we'll cover how to get your Instrumentl Tracker prepped for the next fiscal year!
1. View the previous fiscal year in your Tracker
To view your saved grants from the previous fiscal year, navigate to your Tracker and ensure you have that fiscal year selected from the FY dropdown filter.
2. Populate grants for next year
As you plan for the next year, you may wish to renew current awards or reapply for grants you've submitted or abandoned in previous years. Or perhaps you want to create a record for a multi-year grant that spans across fiscal years.
To create a new record for an upcoming year:
In your Tracker, select an opportunity to view its saved grant page.
Click More options located at the bottom-right corner.
Click Duplicate to create a new opportunity from the same grant & funder.
4. A pop-up window will appear with fields for you to create the new opportunity. Complete the required fields: Project and Status.
Depending on the Status you select, other fields will populate, some of which are required (e.g., Fiscal Year, Application Cycle)

.
For those subscribed to the Professional Plan or higher, selecting an Awarded Status will populate the AI Award Assistant.
5. When finished, click Save.
Once you save this duplicate record, you can see all of the saved opportunities from this funder across all your projects on the left side of the saved grant page.
3. Move unfinished grants to the next year
With your previous year(s) selected, you may see grants you’d like to continue working on in the next year. For example, you may still have grants in the Planned status that you haven’t applied to yet.
To move saved opportunities from one year to another:
In your Tracker, select an opportunity to view its saved grant page.
Click on the FY dropdown menu in the top-right corner next to the Status.
Select Edit year and change the fiscal year
→
Note: Saved opportunities in your Tracker with the Researching Status will automatically rollover to the following fiscal year if there are predicted or confirmed application cycles. Grants in this Status are not assigned any Fiscal Year or Cycle.
Your Instrumentl Tracker for the next fiscal year is now prepared, including grants you plan to reapply for and funding opportunities from the previous year that you're still working on.
