The Instrumentl MCP brings your grant data directly into Claude — Anthropic's AI assistant — so you can explore matches, surface insights, and make faster, more informed prospecting decisions without ever leaving your conversation. By connecting your account, you can ask Claude to pull up your projects, review ranked grant matches, filter by deadline or status, and get full funder profiles complete with an analysis of fit for your specific project.
This connector is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for securely connecting AI tools to external services on your behalf.
Availability
The Instrumentl MCP connector is available to all accounts with active subscriptions (regardless of plan) or active free trials.
Accounts in Maintenance Mode will not have access.
Note: This is a distinct product surface from Instrumentl's API, which remains a feature exclusive to the Full Lifecycle, University and Enterprise Plans.
Value add
Claude doesn't just retrieve your grant data — it reads it, synthesizes it, and surfaces what matters most, saving you the time of sorting through results manually. Instead of navigating between tabs and filters, you can ask plain questions and get organized, actionable answers instantly.
Using the Instrumentl MCP allows you to:
Instantly view grant matches across any of your projects.
Get Claude's "note on fit" analysis, which flags eligibility concerns and highlights what to verify before investing time in an application
Work across all your projects and matches from a single conversation, without switching between tools

Capabilities
List your projects
Ask Claude to pull up your Instrumentl projects. It returns up to 20 at a time in a table showing project name, status, and creation date, then offers to pull the next batch or dig into matches for any specific project.
Try asking: "Show me 20 of my projects from Instrumentl."
View grant matches for a project
Ask Claude to show ranked matches for any of your active projects. Results are sorted by match score by default and include grant name, funder, and next deadline. After returning results, Claude will proactively flag items worth your attention, such as deadlines approaching soonest, tied scores among top matches, or geographic restrictions that may affect eligibility.
Try asking: "Show the top 10 matches for the project [enter project name]."
Retrieve details on a specific grant match
Ask Claude about any grant match. This includes the funder's background, what they fund, priority areas, eligibility requirements, eligible locations, and upcoming deadlines.
Try asking: "Tell me about the [enter funding opportunity name]."
Save grant matches to your projects
Ask Claude to save a grant match.
Try asking: "Save the match, [enter funding opportunity name]."
Hide/Remove saved matches
Ask Claude to hide a funding opportunity that it saved earlier in the session. This will remove the saved grant from your project tracker.
Note: Claude cannot identify saved grants in your Tracker by name unless they were previously saved from your matches using the connector.
Try asking: "Hide the grant you saved earlier: [funding opportunity name]."
Fetch basic account information
Ask Claude to gather high-level information about your Instrumentl account, such as the Account ID, org name, org type, date created and last updated, and the account owner ("Account Manager" as referred to by Claude).
Try asking: "Tell me about my Instrumentl account."
Tool permissions
The Instrumentl MCP connector has several read-only and write/delete tools. To manage these, go to Customize > Connectors > Instrumentl. By default, all tools will be configured to require approval upon every request.
You can manage each one individually and adjust permissions by type (e.g., always allow read-only tools).
Anthropic will prompt you when Claude wants to use a tool that "needs approval". You can choose to allow once or always allow.
Data & privacy
The Instrumentl MCP connector accesses your grant data on your behalf using OAuth 2.0. Claude fetches data on demand as you ask — it does not bulk-load your full account at the start of a session. Instrumentl does not share data or sell user data to third parties. See Instrumentl's Privacy Policy for full details.
